Loving Frank….

Hello Bookworms!

I hope everyone is enjoying this month’s book! From talking with a few of you, it seems like people are reading and more or less enjoying this one…so, let’s set up our next meeting! With this poll, you should be able to select more than one choice, so please pick ALL the days that work for you.

Also, if anyone is up for hosting, let me know!

September’s book!

Hello fellow Book Worms!

It’s time to vote on our next book. I’m excited about all of these choices — thanks to everyone who sent/gave suggestions. Here are links to the summaries to help you decide:

A Handmaid’s Tale, Something Borrowed, Loving Frank, Geek Love

Of note, I came across something interesting on Emily Griffin’s website – she tries really hard to contact Book Club members who discuss her books – check out what she has to say here.

I’ll check back Thursday night and announce the winner!

August meeting!

Hello everyone!

I hope this finds you all enjoying a wonderful summer – and hopefully, fitting in some reading here and there! I know a lot of us have been busy with trips, boyfriends, wedding planning, etc. I’m hoping we can come up with a date for our August meeting that works for everyone. Please vote as soon as you can, as the first date on this list is Wednesday – my bad.

I propose having this meeting at Books and Books in Coral Gables. I think we’re going to have a few newcomers, and last time that worked out well.

Looking forward to seeing you all and discussing our summer reads!

Two books for July!

Greetings everyone!

It was great to see many of you at June’s book club meeting on Tuesday. We decided on July’s books at the meeting – I think this is the first time that 1) we’ve had a general consensus and 2) we’ve chosen a non-fiction book, so that was exciting. And, we actually decided on 2 books, both of which are fairly short. We’re looking to have the next meeting around the end of July. So, without further ado, next month’s reads are

1) How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

2) Life of Pi by Yann Martel

I’m hoping that these choices generate some good discussion at the next meeting!

Happy reading.

I miss you guys!

Hello book friends. I am getting a little sad that I’m gone! First it was exciting, and now that I’m getting settled, I want nothing more than to come to the next book club meeting and chat with you beautiful ladies! I’m looking for a book club here, but job hunting has taken priority over that for a while. Everyone, please send positive job-hunting vibes my way. I will return the good vibes to each of you, I promise.

If anyone wants to see what I’ve been up to, check out the blog I keep for my family and friends here: http://jessica-livejournal.blogspot.com/ —  Blogs all over the place, I know, right!

Also, I hope all of you read the book, because I have a feeling Ginny’s going to be more serious than I was. Just kidding Ginny! I will be thinking of you all tomorrow night. Have a great time and a lively discussion.

Love from the wild West!

Passing the Torch!

And…..I’ve got it!! Sorry for the delay, I know some of you have been anxiously awaiting next months book! After talking with several of you, the next months book is going to be The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. I realize this is sort of a dictating way to start off as the new leader – but we’re already a little overdue for choosing a new book, and lots of people recommended or said this one sounds good. I promise to have a poll for July’s book! Let’s plan to have the next meeting in the latter half of June. Also, Jessica said you should all be very nice to me for taking the torch. I concur.

Miami Going Green Earth Day Festival 2010

Hello! I hope at least some of you are reading and enjoying The Red Tent. Info coming soon on when/where the next meeting will be. For now, I wanted to share this really sweet event with you.

Miami Going Green Earth Day Festival 2010 is Saturday, April 24. It’s FREE at Bayfront Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be seminars on local food, green parenting, green transport in Miami, recycling, etc. There will ALSO be a clothing swap (I can only imagine how giant and awesome it will be). I know a few of us have talked about trading clothes at a swap before, but why not benefit from the potential of thousands of closets across Miami? For bikers, there will be a free bike valet (I’m probably just going to walk, though). Also, if you have any old electronics to recycle, there will be a recycling team on staff to take these hard-to-recycle items.

Anyone interested in joining me? I’m totally going, and I’m looking forward to freshening up my closet! I’ve really been itching for new clothes!

April Book

We’ve been a little off track lately with book club. Everyone is so busy these days! So, hopefully no one will mind, but a few of us went ahead and picked an April book. I’ve read it before (but I’m going to re-read it because it’s been a long time), and I can say that it’s a very good read. I think we’ll have lots of great discussion topics, and I hope you enjoy the book.

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

A few of us will be going to free yoga at Bayfront in the morning if anyone’s interested in joining! I hope everyone is having a great week. Love!

I miss you guys!

I think it’s about time we got together to talk about Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. (Mark and I got the movie on Netflix. If you like the book at all, I recommend the movie. It was pretty visually interesting…) Here’s a picture from the film to pump you up for the meeting.

Tuesday, March 23, seems to be a good day. I’m not sure what time we’ll get together yet, but most likely it will be either 7 or 8 p.m. I’m also not sure where we will have it, but I will let you know in an email!

I just got a gig at an art gallery in Miami, and I would love for you all to check out the website! (See it here: Artrageous Gallery) — I will be working in the Brickell location very soon, so I hope you all can stop by and say hello! Also, if anyone needs fine art (or knows someone who does), let me know and I will do my best to help.

I miss you all! I’m looking forward to our meeting! Come with suggestions for the next book. 🙂
